In my opinion, Tikisha McFall, the beautiful and talented poetess, has one of the most beautiful head of locs. Bright in color with a perfect bill of health are Tikisha’s locs. I recently had the opportunity of interviewing this talented sista for our sister website – ChocolateCity.cc and could not resist the temptation of requesting another interview about her long and beautiful locs.
Following is our conversation:
What made you desire to get locs?
Well, I never did like getting perms or my hair done. I was working as an Assisted Manger in what used to be Midtown Square Mall in Charlotte, NC when this lady came in and her locs were just gorgeous; I began to talk to her and she seemed so free.
How long have you had you locs?
I’ve had my Locs for about 9 years.
Was it hard for you to transition from relaxed hair to natural / locked hair?
Umm not really. I had worn my hair natural for about 2 years and went back to relaxers.
Why?
I don’t know. But I had just moved back to Chicago and had a lot going on and really didn’t have the time or the money to spend in a salon. So I sat on my sister’s couch on 79th St. and began twisting my hair. I did not cut my relaxer out or anything. Just made a decision and stuck to it.
Do you color your locs?
Yes, I just started coloring my hair a little over a year ago. Red seems to be my color. LOL!
What hair products do you use and why?
I make my own concoction that I use. It is a secret for now but will be revealed later. After getting my hair done for so many years and observing what they use I began to look and research for what was best and healthiest for my body and hair.
At any point through your loc journey did you feel like you weren't beautiful?
I really can’t say that I was aware of how I felt. I know I made sure that I looked my best with what I was working with. My friends and family gave me a hard time with the transition but I really didn’t feed into all that much. All I can say is they are very happy with the end result now.
What do you enjoy best about your locs?
I like that I can be versatile with my hair. That I can style it anyway I want to on one day and have it different the next. That I still can wear my hair curly or crimpled. I also like the fact that my hair has no limits.
What would you suggest to other considering getting locs?
Make sure it’s something that you really want to do. The process [of growing locs] does take time and patience. It also takes time to grow.
Tikisha, thanks!
